Return to Hockey – CHC Statement

Last updated: 25th August 2020

Please note: This content is currently duplicated on our main front page.

With the government guidance now allowing hockey to be played locally and inter-club (Step 4) we are looking forward to welcoming you back to hockey as soon as we can. Unfortunately, Beacon Astro is not available for hockey at the start of the season so we are working with other clubs and venues to secure alternative pitches starting with three Sunday training sessions at Hawkenbury (Tunbridge Wells) on September 6th, 13th and 20th.

We then hope to have Saturday afternoon availability at Cumnor for training and match play, senior matches at Lingfield and some Sunday senior games at Hawkenbury.

At present, England Hockey have not moved to Step 5 which allows competitive league play. Fixtures released suggest a start date of September 26th where possible.

As you might expect when we do return there will be a “new normal” for the short term at least and this means several changes in how we operate, train and play. This will need a concerted collective club effort from us all. We want to ensure that in whatever form it takes, we all have an enjoyable safe season of hockey.

As a Club we have carefully completed detailed risk assessments and formulated an action plan to enable us to safely apply all government and England Hockey guidelines once we are up and running. The Committee are working hard behind the scenes to bring hockey back. It is extremely important to us to create an environment where all members feel comfortable and safe.

We (Vicky Dennett and Fiona Von-Hinten) are the club’s Covid Officers and are available to answer any questions or enquiries you may have.

So what can you do in the meantime?

The first step for ALL players is to sign the England Hockey Participation Agreement. Those under 18 will need a parent to complete it. If you intended to play please complete this as soon as possible.

It must be signed at least 48 hours before the first time you intend to train or play or unfortunately you will not be able to play. It would be excellent if you might do this now so we can be ready to go as soon as we have pitch availability. You can find the online form here:

Individual Consent for Participating in Hockey under Covid-19 Restrictions Form

Also attached to this letter is a guide as to what to expect and some of the changes we will be working with this season. We very much look forward to seeing you all soon. Stay safe,

CHC Covid Officers
